Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, has stated that the National Parliament’s budget session will commence on June 7, and it will be a highly significant session.

He made these remarks while exchanging views with journalists at the Circuit House in Bhola on Tuesday (May 26) afternoon, during his five-day visit to the district.

The Speaker said, “Through this budget session, the public will learn about the current state and future direction of Bangladesh’s economy. I hope that both the ruling party and the opposition will jointly present a budget that brings more relief to the everyday lives of ordinary people.”

He stated that the budget will prioritize keeping the prices of essential commodities within the purchasing power of the common people. Furthermore, attention will be given to accelerating development activities.

Major Hafiz said, “After the budget session, the true picture of the country’s economy will be revealed to the public. Simultaneously, foreign investors will also be encouraged to invest in Bangladesh.”

Regarding the role of the opposition, the Speaker said, “It is natural for the ruling party to present the budget and for the opposition to criticize it. However, we welcome constructive criticism. I will ensure that the opposition gets sufficient time to fulfill its responsibilities.”

He further added that he is optimistic that the parliament has been able to meet the expectations of the people and will play an even more effective role in the future.

Extending Eid greetings to the countrymen, the Speaker said, “For the past few years, we could not celebrate Eid properly. There was an atmosphere of fear in the country. Now, an elected BNP government has been governing the country for three months. I hope much of that fearful atmosphere has dissipated. This Eid will be an Eid of relief for the people.”

Also present on the occasion were Dr. Shamim Rahman, Golam Nabi Alamgir, Md. Shahidullah Kawsar, and senior officials of the administration.
