Holy Eid-ul-Adha has been celebrated nationwide, including the capital Dhaka, with due solemnity, religious reverence, and the ideal of sacrifice. On the occasion of this second largest religious festival of the Muslim Ummah, a large number of devotees flocked to various Eidgahs and mosques across the country from Thursday morning.

Before the Eid prayers, the Khateebs highlighted the significance of Qurbani and the lessons of sacrifice in their sermons. After the prayers, devotees exchanged Eid greetings with each other and participated in special supplications for the peace and prosperity of the nation and the well-being of the Muslim Ummah.

The main Eid congregation was held at 7:30 AM at the National Eidgah Maidan in the capital. President Md. Shahabuddin, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, cabinet members, judges, diplomats, political leaders, and people from various walks of life attended it. The congregation was led by Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek, the Khateeb of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Meanwhile, a total of five Eid congregations were held successively at the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram, starting from 7 AM. Simultaneously, officials and employees of the Parliament Secretariat and worshippers from various professions also participated in Eid prayers at the South Plaza of the National Parliament House.

After the prayers, city dwellers became busy sacrificing animals in various areas of the capital. Some slaughtered animals in their courtyards, some in garages, and others in open spaces. Neighbors, mosque imams and muezzins, and madrassa students assisted in the Qurbani process.

On the occasion of Eid, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and various private TV channels are broadcasting special programs. Additionally, improved quality meals have been served in hospitals, orphanages, prisons, and children’s homes.

According to religious injunctions, Qurbani can be performed on the day of Eid and the subsequent two days. There are instructions to distribute one portion of the Qurbani meat among the poor and needy, one portion for relatives, and the remaining portion for one’s own family.

Earlier, Holy Eid-ul-Adha was celebrated on Wednesday in various countries around the world, including Saudi Arabia. Hajj pilgrims completed the important rituals of Hajj, including animal sacrifice in Mina.
