Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has directed that the investigation report on the case concerning the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in Pallabi, Dhaka, be submitted within seven days. This directive was issued to the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

On Thursday (May 21), the Law Minister himself confirmed this information, stating that appropriate initiatives would be taken to conclude the trial of the murder case as swiftly as possible.

Last Tuesday morning, the body of Ramisa, a second-grade student, was recovered from an apartment in Pallabi Section-11 area. Following this incident, the child’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed a case at Pallabi Police Station. The case names Ramisa’s next-door flat tenant Sohel Rana, his wife Swapna Akter, and one unknown individual as defendants.

After the murder, Swapna Akter was detained. Sohel Rana went into hiding but was arrested on the evening of the same day. Police have presented both accused in court today, while the unknown accused remains at large.

During initial police interrogation following the case, Sohel confessed to raping and killing Ramisa. Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman of Pallabi Police Station, the investigating officer of the case, confirmed this information. Furthermore, the primary accused has agreed to give a confessional statement before a magistrate.

Meanwhile, Ramisa’s body underwent an autopsy at Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Subsequently, the body was handed over to the family, and relatives buried Ramisa in her ancestral village.
