The charge framing hearing in the case filed over the rape and murder of eight-year-old child Ramisa in Pallabi, Dhaka, is being held today, Monday (June 1). On this occasion, prime accused Sohail Rana and his wife have been presented in court.
Sohail Rana was brought to the court in a prison van around 7:45 AM. The charge framing hearing is scheduled to take place at the Dhaka Children’s Violence Prevention Tribunal in the presence of the accused.
Earlier, on May 24, the investigating officer of the case submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The court accepted the charge sheet and sent the case to the Children’s Violence Prevention Tribunal for trial.
On May 19, police recovered the mutilated body of Ramisa, a second-grade student, from an apartment in Pallabi, Dhaka. Following the incident, Sohail Rana and his wife, who resided in that flat, were arrested.
During the investigation, Sohail Rana reportedly confessed to the rape and murder in court.
The charge sheet accuses Sohail Rana of rape and murder. Additionally, his wife is accused of aiding in the destruction of evidence related to the crime.
A total of 18 people, including Ramisa’s father and neighbors, have been made witnesses in the case. With the framing of charges, the judicial process of this widely discussed case officially begins.
